Handel & Haydn Society - Purcell's "Indian Queen" and then H2 at Lucca Back Bay!
Details
First H2 meetup of the year! If you've joined us for any in the past, you know H&H can throw a good party. Hang out with the performers, H&H staff (including me! how exciting!) and other classical music fans over drinks at a very cool bar.
This H&H concert is one I've been looking forward to for a long time. It's an all Purcell (including one piece by Henry's brother Daniel :)) concert, featuring his beautiful semi-opera "The Indian Queen" as well as "The Frost Scene" from King Arthur, one of the most remarkable arias in all of classical music, among other pieces.
Time will be tight, but I will try to get there for the pre-concert conversation at 7pm. I'll be at row H, but look for the meetup signs! It will be held on the stage at Jordan Hall an hour before the performance. This will be a good time to discuss transportation for those who don't want to walk to Lucca Back Bay.
If you have trouble finding us, especially when at Lucca's (it can be pretty crowded) please contact Mike at 408.OPERA.81 (408.673.7281) or Sasha at 321.CANTATA (321.226.8282)!
The conversation and concert will be at NEC's Jordan Hall and the H2 after-party will be at Lucca Back Bay (116 Huntington Avenue) immediately following the performance. Please be sure to RSVP for the event at the H2 page, too. Here is the RSVP link: http://www.handelandhaydn.org/concerts/h2/rsvp
from Handel & Haydn Society's website:
Henry Purcell’s last major work, The Indian Queen, receives special treatment in this compelling interpretation by Harry Christophers and the Period Instrument Orchestra and Chorus. Last performed by H&H in 1995, this semi-opera surrounds Queen Zempoalla of Mexico and focuses on her resistance against Montezuma’s invading Peruvian army. Adapted from John Dryden and Sir Robert Howard’s 1664 play, the opera was completed by Henry’s brother Daniel after his death.
