Presentation Night: Python Career Pathways

Details

For this Presentation Night, we have two great talks about Python careers. This event is co-hosted by Boston Python and PyLadies Boston.

Navigating the Tech Industry: Embracing Your Unique Path to Success,
Marianne Ray
In this practical talk, I share strategies for thriving in today's challenging tech job market through effective networking. I'll explain why traditional application methods yield diminishing returns and how networking creates opportunities regardless of market conditions. Learn actionable techniques for overcoming imposter syndrome, approaching industry events, conducting meaningful outreach, and building an authentic online presence. I'll demonstrate how to transform differences into advantages, develop a sustainable networking system, and make it easy for others to help you. Drawing from personal experiences, I'll show how strategic connections can open unexpected doors throughout your career. Leave with concrete steps to immediately strengthen your professional network—because in tough markets, your network becomes your safety net.

Going All-In: Landing Your First Python Job, Bill Blanchard
Many people find their way to Python later in life. Whether they are dissatisfied with their current career or are drawn to the challenges associated with software development, landing your first job in Python development can be difficult. This is especially true if you come from a non-traditional pipeline (i.e. you're not a new college grad from a high profile university with an internship under your belt). With the market tightening and AI causing business leaders to re-evaluate whether or not to hire new talent, this talk will provide you with some strategies that will take you off the beaten path to landing that coveted first job in software.

We will also have a short talk from Ben Hicks on trends in technical hiring. Ben's talk will be informed by insights gathered from nearly thirty years of work as a technical recruiter.

Pizza will be provided. Doors open at 6:00 PM, talks start at 6:30 PM. We'll have time before and after the presentations to mingle with speakers and other members of the community.

Please RSVP by Monday, July 28 at 10 AM.
