PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION:
Join BCRES in welcoming Anders Fremstad, an economics professor at Colorado State University, who will discuss a recent report he co-authored for the Roosevelt Institute on pathways toward a Green New Deal. Specifically, Anders will discuss why a rapid decarbonization program is not only possible, but tremendously beneficial in terms of job creation, improved economic growth, and the promotion of equity. Such a proposal includes 1) carbon pricing to ensure we meet our emissions goals in an equitable way, 2) comprehensive regulations to promote decarbonization across the board, and 3) large-scale public investments.
Anders will also explore options for paying for a Green New Deal, in the process outlining the macroeconomic reasons why more public spending is a pro-growth proposal.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Anders Fremstad is an assistant professor in the Economics Department at Colorado State University, where he teaches courses in microeconomics, environmental economics, and political economy. Anders' research focuses on the political economy of the environment, especially the sharing economy and the climate crisis. He has used carbon footprint data to study household and urban economies in carbon emissions, the potential of work hours reductions to address climate change, and the distributional impact of carbon pricing policies.
