Energy Frontiers Talks: Student Research into the Energy Transition

Details

PLEASE NOTE: This event has been rescheduled from March. The "Energy Frontiers Talks: Student Research into the Energy Transition" webinar will take place on Wednesday, May 13th starting at 7 PM Mountain Standard Time.

Join BCRES in welcoming student researchers from CU Boulder and the CU Energy Club to share their current energy-focused research and projects. This event will feature three student groups presenting over an hour and with a Q&A session for all groups at the end.

Title: Energy Policy Analysis with Guzman Energy
Speakers: Kayla Carey, Nathan Stottler
Description: A preview of the policy research, analysis, and proposals to be performed by Kayla Carey and Nathan Stottler in their 2020 MENV Capstone Project. Topics include Colorado PUC and General Assembly proceedings pertinent to Guzman Energy, a full-service wholesale power provider, as well as an in-depth research project that will be of interest to actors in the wider energy transition in Colorado and the Intermountain West.

Title: "Smart" Grid-Responsive Homes
Speaker: Kaitlyn Garifi
Description: Currently, our power grid is operated to match our electricity demand every second of the day. Designing a "smart" grid-responsive home aims to flip that; homes will instead match their electricity demand to the renewable energy available. Kaitlyn Garifi, a PhD Candidate in Electrical Engineering at CU Boulder, will discuss her work on designing algorithms to optimally manage electricity usage in "smart" grid-responsive homes.

Title: C-PACE Financing: Helping Developers Invest in Clean Energy
Speakers: Andy Bingle, Caroline Cox, Dan Kristofzski, Raquel Soat
Description: Historically, commercial and industrial developers had little incentive to invest in clean energy upgrades. Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) financing, which passed in Colorado in 2016, is creatively designed to help developers pay for the energy projects and benefit from the energy savings. Join students from the Masters of the Environment program, in partnership with Boulder-based Independent Power Systems, to examine C-PACE financing and to understand developer motivations for clean energy investments.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA WEBINAR.

WEBINAR SCHEDULE:
