Run at Bear Lake (RMNP)
Details
This week we'll be doing something unique for this time of year and taking advantage of the warmer weather by heading to Rocky Mountain National Park.
ROUTE
We'll start at the Bear Lake Trailhead and see how many lakes we can get to. I'm not sure of the distance or time; however, plan for 2-3 hours and maybe 10 miles or so.
CARPOOL
We'll use the following 2 carpool options:
- North Foothills Trailhead in Boulder at 8:00a – At the intersection of Broadway and Hwy 36, head north on 36 a few hundred feet. Turn right onto the dirt road. Trailhead is a little ways down on your left.
- Moxie Bread Co in Lyons at 8:20am - 442 High Street, Lyons, CO – the corner of High St & 5th Street, Lyons, CO.
Alternatively, you can meet us at the trailhead if you have a RMNP pass. Enter the park through the Beaver Meadows entrance in Estes Park and head to the Bear Lake parking lot. We'll try to be there around 9:00a-ish.
CONSIDERATIONS
Dogs are not allowed in RMNP.
Expect winter conditions both on the trail and on the roads. If you don't have snow tires please carpool. Make sure to bring traction for your shoes. The trail reports say hard packed icy trails to snow drifts. We could also see a little fresh snow for Saturday. We will be at altitude, so some warmer clothing may be appropriate.
In your RSVP, please let us know where you intend to meet us and if you have a RMNP pass. I have one and will plan to drive.
Lastly, if you or someone would like to join and hike rather than run, that would be great too! We will plan for breakfast in Estes Park afterwards.
Happy Holidays!!
