For Saturday's run we will be heading to Jamestown to do the Jamestown Loop. This trail, especially along James Creek, is one of the more interesting trails from a terrain perspective. Tons of type-2 fun!

WARNING
On a more serious note, if you are new to the group, this is NOT the best run to start with. The first 4 miles are definitely an adventure and includes many river and log crossings. Once we are into or past this section, it is not advised to turn back on your own, so you will need to commit to the loop. If you have any doubts, please pass on this run or message me your questions.

ROUTE
The route will take us up James Creek, then we'll cut across the ridge on a variety of "Nugget" related trails / mining roads. We'll climb Nugget Hill, then return down into Jamestown via Slaughterhouse Gulch.

Plan for around 12-13 miles, 2700 ft. of gain, and about 5 hours. Since it is a loop, the shorter options are limited. The climb up Nugget Hill is a 2 mile out/back section that could be skipped (but it is also a very scenic section). You could run the back side of the loop as an out/back, but if you are not familiar with the area, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you are good with navigation and come prepared.

CARPOOL
Options:

  1. At the North Foothills Trailhead at 7:30a – At the intersection of Broadway and Hwy 36, head north on 36 a few hundred feet. Turn right onto the dirt road. Trailhead is a little ways down on your left.
  2. The side of Lefthand Canyon Rd. just as you turn off Hwy 36 by the Greenbriar Restaurant at 7:40a.

We'll meet and park in the center of Jamestown at the church parking lot by the park. Parking is limited, so please carpool as much as possible. I expect we'll be there around 8:00a. Note: Please do not park at the Post Office.

From Boulder, Lyons, etc. take Hwy 36 to Lefthand Canyon Drive to Jamestown Canyon Drive to Jamestown.

CONSIDERATIONS
We'll plan to eat at the Jamestown Mercantile and/or take it to go and eat across the street in the park.

The trail is dog friendly, but there are many log crossings, so make sure your dog is comfortable with that. If you are not sure, I'd suggest not bringing your dog.

Please let us know in the comments below where you intent to meet us.
