Lightning Talk: Design Patterns: The Key to Refactoring Rails MVC by John Travers
Description: When using Ruby on Rails, it's easy to find yourself with not-so-slim controllers and models. This talk will provide specific use cases for various design patterns, as well as how to implement them to refactor your Rails app. Hopefully you'll learn how to identify areas where you can use these design patterns to slim down your own models and controllers.
Bio: John Travers is a Ruby on Rails enthusiast and recent graduate from Turing's Back End Engineering program. As a yoga instructor, former chemical & biological engineer, and avid language learner (he speaks Spanish, French, and a little Mandarin Chinese), he loves exploring new technologies and making sense of legacy code. Feel free to connect with him on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnktravers.

Talk 2: Migrating Rails from Heroku to AWS by Carleton DiLeo from Algoly
Description: Starting with Heroku allows dev teams to build Rails applications quickly without the fuss of server administration. The cost of Heroku can quickly outweigh the benefits once your company grows. Let's explore moving a Heroku application to AWS EC2 using Docker to save money and increase capacity.
Bio: Currently CTO of Algoly. Been working in tech for 17 years across many different platforms and languages. Published a book last year called “Clean Ruby”. Developed video games for mobile and VR.
