Join us at our monthly gathering where we present topics of interest to Rubyists and aspiring programmers.

Doors open at 5:30pm, where you can hangout and socialize with other Boulder Ruby members. We have food and beverages available to add to the enjoyment.

==================================
Talk 1: Alone Together: the Neuroscience of Connection and the Limitations of Digital Presence by Daniel Frampton

Description: The quarantine has exacerbated an epidemic of loneliness, which studies show is best addressed by in-person contact. As remote workers and developers of the software people increasingly use to communicate, learn, and work, it is vital that we understand how our minds form connections with others. If we shift our mindset regarding user engagement and practice awareness of the limitations of our technology, we can affect significant change in our industry and society.

Bio: Daniel is a recent graduate from Turing. Coming from a background as an educator, mentor, and non-profit leader, he's passionate about crafting technology that facilitates transformational relationships and improves rather than replaces our embodied lives. While looking for a full-time role in software development, he's developing new features for Paired.tech (https://www.paired.tech), an app which allows Turing students to book peer mentoring sessions with one another.

Talk 2: it { should be a_good_talk } by Paul Sadauskas from TextUs

Description: Writing custom RSpec matchers can be helpful for writing simpler, DRY-er and more descriptive specs. We'll talk about how they're used, how to make them, and some useful ones I've discovered or created myself.

Bio: Paul is Lead Software Architect at TextUs, and has been a Ruby & Rails developer for 15 years. You may remember him from such startups as Kapost, GitHub, LivingSocial, Librato and Strobe. He's maintainer of a few gems, a contributer to many others, and passionate about creating software that's a joy for fellow devs to both use and contribute.
