What we're about

Dear members,

Until further notice I'm cancelling the meetup because of the Coronavirus situation moving so quickly. Obviously you are still free to choose to go to Bloc if you wish, but it will be independently of this meetup. Thanks for understanding and be safe.

As soon as things are back to normal I'll let you all know!

Seb

Come and join our friendly, welcoming bouldering group where we meetup to have fun, socialise, do some bouldering and share some good times with our fellow boulderers! This is a weekly event, but we have extra events in store - stay tuned!

Anyone is welcome, from experienced climbers / boulderers to absolute beginners! It's a supportive group focussing on having a good time and helping one another achieve what they want from the sport. Come along! :-)

We meet up at Bloc (https://blocclimbing.co.uk (https://blocclimbing.co.uk/)) in St Werburghs at 1830 every Tuesday. We'll welcome new boulderers every week then head onto the bouldering floor to hit the walls. If you've not climbed before, you'll have the support of everyone within the team, and a more experienced member will talk you through the basics and get you you started :)

The original idea for this group was to make pizza the post-bouldering staple, but we've since discovered there are two wonderful local pubs which let us bring our own food in, and they are minutes from several takeaway restaurants and a pizzeria. At the end of each session we chat among the members and head off to one of these for a drink and food together.

Details about each event and how to sign up etc are in the event descriptions - IT IS IMPORTANT YOU READ THIS AS ALL INFO IS IN THERE.

Climbing and bouldering can be truly rewarding for so many reasons - here's an interesting website recommended by a friend about the link between climbing and mental health. Check it out and contribute if you'd like - https://restlessclimbingminds.com;;;.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome, and welcome back :)

A weekly meetup to have some fun, socialise and do some bouldering.

START TIME – 1830.

WHO CAN CLIMB?

Anyone can climb!

- Beginners / inexperienced climbers:

You'll be in very safe hands. A more experienced member will help you get started and along with the rest of the team help you on your climbing journey. After several sessions you'll be ready to take a straightforward short safety / house rules test at reception to become a Bloc member.

Another option is to do the Bloc induction for £25. I would recommend this - you’ll be ready to become a fully fledged member after just the one session. The full membership (£10) is included, and as a non member a session is £11, so effectively you’re paying only £4 to fast track. These take place on Tuesday evenings from[masked] - you need to phone ahead and book yourselves onto this. Please be aware you won't be able to climb with the group before this time.

- Experienced climbers:

If you’ve climbed before but not at Bloc, however feel comfortable with general bouldering centre rules, you should be able to sign up as a member at Bloc straight away.

If you're already a member at Bloc then you can of course get going straight away.

!! IMPORTANT !!

1. Anyone new to the group, please message me beforehand to let me know if you are a(n)

- beginner (and whether or not you've signed up to the Bloc induction)

- experienced boulderer but not a member at Bloc

- already a member at Bloc.

2. If you're signed up but unfortunately can't make it, please can you leave the RSVP list, this will make life easier when getting organised. Your cooperation with this will be really appreciated.

3. A pre-requisite of being a member of the meetup group is that we all support new climbers every week :)

GETTING THE WEEK’S MEETUP STARTED

We'll meet at reception just in front of the main doors. I'm the tall guy with a red Yankees baseball cap :)

Returning meetup members – as you already will know one another, come and say hi and then you can just head out onto the bouldering floor. I may ask you lovely folk to sign in newer climbers and get them started.

CLOTHING

For both guys and girls, I’d suggest loose shorts or trousers (or leggings) and T-shirt or vest.

Trainers are allowed, but I’d recommend climbing shoes - £4 rental. Not essential but you might want thin socks if you're hiring shoes.

PRICES

Non members (£11 per session, signed in by a member unless doing the induction)

Membership (when ready) - £10, then £10 / session, OR £45 per month / unlimited.

MoveGB – By paying a fee per month you can access most of the climbing centres in Bristol, along with many other classes and fitness centres. Worth it if you’re going to keep it up regularly. Ask me or check out MoveGB online if you're interested.

LOCKERS & CHANGING ROOMS

There are lockers and a small changing room – bring a padlock for the locker (although many people don’t lock their stuff up – it’s generally a pretty safe vibe in there)

AND FOR AFTERS...

Aiming for around 2030, we’ll head round the corner to St Werberghs and have a drink and food together in one of the local pubs or restaurants.

-----

Looking forward to seeing where this group can go! Hoping you love climbing and everything that is associated with it, and the chance to hang out with your fellow boulderers each week :).
