Details

"It is impossible to backpack the 31 mile Pow Wow Trail in even 3 days when it has 1,200 treefalls blocking the trail and you can' see the rock cairns. We need an actionable plan to bring Pow Wow back, for you and for your children." - Martin Kubik, BWAC Founder and President.

New to Friends of the BWCA Trails? Not new, but wondering "how come no trail clearing trips this spring?" Martin Kubik, will discuss what, why and when of the BWCAW hiking trails and share our vision to bring back the Pow Wow Trail. Did you know that 42 mile long Kekekabic Trail was saved by volunteers in 1990 after being abandoned by the Forest Service? And then again in 1999 after the big storm? Do you know which other trails BWAC volunteers saved from vanishing in the past? Which ranger district are these trails located on? What wilderness laws pertain to Boundary Water trails? Why don't we clear with chain saws?

We organize wide range of outings: local hikes, gear clinics, BWCAW trips for leadership skills, trail survey and clearing, canoeing and snowcamping adventures.

Minnesota is a progressive state and Minnesotans are progressive people. We need to speak out for trails, if for no other reason, because Moose and Wolf don't write letters to Congress to keep them open. Discover BWAC top 3 trail needs and how you can help to assure that wilderness trails won't fade away.

Join us at Midwest Mountaineering at 7 pm for informative session and for your adventure! Door prize: BWA Committee T-shirt and a set of 3 McKenzie maps covering the Pow Wow Trail. Be the next one in line to hike it.
