Cedar Sink and Turnhole Bend, MCNP
Details
Sunday, March 9, 2024, 1:00 p.m. central time.
Let's explore a couple of short trails that highlight the geology and beauty of Mammoth Cave National Park. This trip will require driving a short distance between trailheads. Distance: 2.5 miles. Cedar Sink trail will be muddy as the sink was recently flooded.
Turnhole Bend Nature Trail is an easy/moderate 0.5-mile loop that circles sinks and overlooks the Green River at Turnhole Bend (where boats used to wait to turn around in the river during steamboat days). You can only see the spring during winter months!
Cedar Sink Trail is an easy/moderate 1.9-mile lollipop trail that descends into a large sink where an underground river emerges during high water and flows above ground briefly before heading back underground to flow into the Green River at Turnhole Bend. LOTS of steps on this one and we will be ascending a multi-story metal staircase on the way out.
