Docker is a convention for building and packaging server-side applications in a consistent way that enables you to quickly deploy to a variety of production environments without having to worry about dependency hell.

Since its debut in 2013 it has quickly become the leading container convention in the space, and signs point to even further uptake in the future.

We will go over the basics of Docker: what it is and how to use it locally, with a quick side quest on how to prepare your application to be dockerized via the 12factor convention. We’ll also show how to deploy a dockerized app to a production environment.
