Details

**Limited space at the cabin, RSVP early. Paid event if staying at the cabin, details TBA**
Notes about the Rillway cabin.
It's a nice one room* cabin with three bunk beds and a good wood stove, a table and chairs. It's very popular and reservations are hard to get, but team member Jessica was able to reserve this for our group!
*sort of like a T, the cabin has both a large wood stove and a smaller kitchen type wood stove.
On the front side is a highway but out the back door is grassy area with a stream and a large natural stone wall behind it. Nearby is a fire ring; bring your own folding camp chair. There is no electricity so bring your own lanterns and a propane grill and camp coffee pot.
Paddling Routes:
I've done it from the bridge at Toston to the bridge at Townsend, but in late season that's a long slow paddle and in the last hour I just wanted to get it finished . So chose the upper or lower half.
The midpoint is a fishing access point at York's Island / Deep Dale Fishing Access site (maps vary).
I recommend the upper part - putting in at the Toston Bridge and taking out at York's Island / Deep Dale Fishing access. It's a nice easy paddle.
At least it was years ago - but if a tree has fallen in the river be prepared to have a game plan to avoid that possible disaster. I don't recall many trees but the rule always applies.
If you put in at Toston Bridge at 11 am I think you would be off the water by 3 pm.
On Monday as you leave the cabin, perhaps take a detour to soak at White Sulphur Springs (and lunch - they have some good restaurants!)
Cut over to the Bridger Canyon from Clyde Park and drive back to Bozeman via the scenic road that goes by Bridger Bowl ski area.
HISTORY:
Last time we did this (Steve, Darla, Ruth, Vicki) we met at our put in site a the bridge at Toston, MT The cloudy weather was "interesting" continually changing about every few minutes from sleet to hail to rain to sleet... With only low water being let out of the Toston dam, the time on the river would have been about 6 hours. It did not take long to abandon ship (i.e. not unloading our boats). Instead we drove on to Townsend and had a relaxed Sunday morning breakfast in a warm cafe. After killing time driving around, we arrived at the cabin perhaps an hour early with no problems. Soon we had a fire going in the wood stove as we settled in, unpacked food and a board game called Yatsee (?).
The next day we hit the water despite the weather!
We did so by packing up and driving over the hill to White Sulfur Springs and soaked in the hot pools. :) returning to Bozeman driving on the East side of the Bridgers and past Bridger Bowl
