Meetup in Breda - Penetration testing // POPO objects

Details

We would like to welcome you for our next BrabantPHP meetup. This meetup will take place in Breda at Let's Talk.
Starting time: 18:30 (with food).

This time we'll have a packed schedule with two talks. So better not miss this one!

Penetration testing for developers - Nic Wortel
SQL injection, password cracking, session hijacking... As a developer, you've probably heard of some of these terms, and might be aware of the basic measures to counter them. But how does a hacker execute such attacks? What tools do they use? And how easy would it be to attack your own application? By starting to think like our adversaries, we have a better chance of finding vulnerabilities in our software before they can be exploited.
In this talk we will look at a few tools used by attackers and ethical hackers alike to find (and exploit) vulnerabilities in web applications. By the end of the talk, you will have a better understanding of how an attacker might target your application and how you can use the same tools to discover vulnerabilities yourself first.

About the speaker
Nic Wortel is an independent software consultant and trainer. After working as a software engineer for over 10 years, he started to offer consulting and training workshops to help other teams improve their software development processes. From time to time, he speaks at meetups about software development, DevOps, and related topics.

POPO Objects - Bas Bieling
The simplicity and clarity of Plain Old PHP Objects (POPOs) can be a game-changer for maintaining clean, bug-free code. This talk delves into how developers can leverage POPOs to avoid the pitfalls of untyped data structures. We will explore the practical benefits of using POPOs, including enhanced code readability, maintainability, and reduced risk of bugs. Attendees will gain insights into strategies for integrating POPOs into existing PHP projects, with real-world examples demonstrating their effectiveness. This session is not just about adopting a new technique; it's about fostering a mindset shift towards more structured, reliable, and robust PHP development.

About the speaker
Bas is a seasoned PHP developer and a passionate advocate for clean code practices. With almost a decade of experience in the field, he has developed a deep expertise in PHP with a focus on Laravel. Bas's experience spans across building robust, maintainable software, contributing to open source projects and mentoring fellow developers.

About the sponsor
At the heart of our company lies a story of entrepreneurship and technological ingenuity. Let's Talk https://letstalk.nl, which started as a physical store where telephone subscriptions were taken out, has developed into a pioneer in the telecom industry. The driving force behind this evolution? Marcel, our founder and former owner, who was convinced that the telephone subscription process could be much simpler.

Marcel took matters into his own hands and independently developed software that not only simplified the creation of subscriptions, but also lifted sales to new heights. This self-designed software grew to become the backbone of telecom departments at leading retailers such as Media Markt Netherlands, Media Markt Belgium and Phone House Netherlands.

At Let's Talk we not only embrace change, but we strive to actively shape the future. In addition to our technological developments, we are also moving towards a fully agile scrum organization, where flexibility and collaboration are central. At the same time, we are working on a transformation towards talent-driven collaboration, in which we combine the unique strengths of our employees to achieve joint success.

Our story is one of continuous evolution, driven by the desire to make the telephone subscription process even more efficient and customer-friendly.
