The Miracle of Being Awake

Details

Theosophy promotes harmony among all people and encourages the study of different religions. Today’s program focuses on the Buddha. The full moon of May is considered the birth, awakening and passing of Gautama Buddha who lived on earth two thousand five hundred years ago. Millions around the world celebrate Buddha at the full moon of May.

We are showing a DVD featuring John Cianciosi speaking about the Buddha, and the essential principles of Buddhist teachings. He focuses on what the Buddha’s enlightenment tells us about our own potential for the highest happiness. As a speaker and teacher Mr. Cianciosi has a beautiful, informal clarity.

He is head of public programs at the Theosophical Society in America in Wheaton, IL where he teaches yoga and meditation. He also teaches at the College of Dupage, the largest community college in the US, and located in Chicago suburbs. He was born in Italy and educated in Australia. In 1972 he was ordained a Buddhist monk in Thailand and trained under one of the country’s most gifted and influential meditation masters, the late venerable Ajahn Chah.

The one-hour and ten minute DVD will be followed by our own celebration of Buddha called the Wesak Festival.
