Non-muscle Myosin II

Details

Non-muscle myosin II is a molecular motor protein, and can turn chemical energy into mechanical work. It is the main driver of cellular contractility and is critical for several cellular functions including cytokinesis (the dividing of the cell's cytoplasm after division), morphogenesis (cell shape change, particularly during development), and cell migration. While the mechanisms that regulate non-muscle myosin II have been studied for years, my lab has been focused on discovering new ways it is regulated.
