The 20-minute film highlights the struggles of surrounding communities, who lost their land and livelihoods due to the construction and operation of the Japan-funded coal plant project in Matarbari, Bangladesh. It also provides recommendations for a way beyond coal-powered energy with a roadmap for responsible energy finance from Japan.
350, is an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.
On the week of the G7 Hiroshima Summit, 350 are calling on the hosts, Japan to clean up their act and demand an end to fossil fuels.
However, Japan plans to continue using fossil fuels until 2030 and exporting outdated dirty energy technologies to Asian countries under the guise of "development." This policy ignores the plight of those in Asia affected by forced evictions, pollution, and climate disasters.
350’s demands are simple: we want clean air, safety, and protection from eviction. Achieving these requires Japan to stop funding all fossil fuels everywhere.
