What we’re about

Hello! Please come join Pranayama (yogic breathing exercises) and Meditation practises!
i will lead and teach the techniques, for around 35 or 40 minutes, then there will be a guided meditation and short relaxation.
By donation, or you can check in with USC

Here is a basic explanation of ONE of the pranayama practises we will do each week:

Alternate nostril breathing (nadi shodhanam) is a simple breathing exercise that purifies the nadis, or subtle energy channels in the body. It balances the flow of breath in the nostrils and the flow of subtle energy in the nadis. The physical body is built around the subtle framework of the nadis and is sustained by the flow of pranic energy through this network.

Patanjali, the sage who codified yoga science around 200 B.C., explains that the control of prana is the regulation of inhalation and exhalation.

This practice quietens the mind and regulates the breath by establishing slow, even breathing without a pause between inhalation and exhalation.

The three principle energy channels flowing in the spinal cord are ida, pingala, and sushumna. The ida and pingala channels correspond with the feminine/lunar and masculine/solar natures.

By balancing these energy channels, sushumna, the central channel, can be awakened leading the mind to stillness, joy, and meditation.

Sounds awesome, right? it is, especially for teachers who want to offer more traditional yoga in their asana/fitness classes, or anyone who wants to slow down, enjoy the silence in their own soul, and learn to regulate their energy.
