Título : Genetic Algorithms: Solving problems without data

Abstract: It is hard to search for something when we have no idea where it might be. Especially if we are searching in a large multidimensional space. If only you could search in parallel in multiple places and had a few arrows pointing you in the (possibly) right direction... Genetic Algorithms to the rescue! The talk will start with a brief overview on Genetic Algorithms, and then address a few practical tips and tricks and their influence on the outcome of the search. We'll also see some examples of application, not all of them boring.

Short Bio: Davide has a joint PhD degree from the Universities of Minho, Aveiro and Porto since 2013. Adjunct Professor of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, he is an integrated researcher in the CIICESI center and collaborates with the Algoritmi Center. He has participated in several Research Projects in different application fields, all under the IA umbrella.
