Arrive from 7pm for a 7:30pm start.

This month we're delighted to welcome back Tahani Baldwin from the Brighton and Sussex Medical School:

Scientists have often described the human brain as the most complex object in the universe. With approximately 86 billion neurons and trillions of synaptic connections, the brain has shaped how we perceive the world around us and fuelled our curiosity about what lies beyond it. From looking up at the night sky to walking on the Moon, our exploration of space is as much a story of the human mind as it is one of rockets, engineering, and technology. In this talk, Tahani Baldwin will explore the psychology and neuroscience behind our drive to venture into the unknown, and what happens to the mind when we get there.

Tahani Baldwin is a PhD candidate in Neuroscience at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Her work investigates the influence of digital interventions and psychophysiology to promote behavioural change within industrial settings. A keen space enthusiast, Tahani has applied her knowledge of human behaviour to the study and practice of space exploration. Her master’s research investigated personality and stress during Martian virtual reality simulations, during which she served as Chairperson of the University of Birmingham Astronomical Society, and more recently acted as Psychological Officer for Asclepios VI, a lunar analogue mission in the Swiss Alps. When she’s not researching, you can find her scuba diving off the beaches of Shoreham (weather-dependent), reading any sci-fi novel she can find, and proudly hosting for Brighton Astro.

For this meeting we will be at Wagner Hall on Regency Road, Brighton.
Attendance is free, but we would be grateful if those of you who are able to could donate a few pounds to help cover the cost of hiring this event space. We will have a card reader and a money box you can drop your donations in on the night. We also have a bank account you can donate to electronically.

Brighton Astro is inclusive and welcomes everybody.

Please note that the venue has a bar that sells alcohol.
