Kind Greetings to you

Please join us on Monday mornings for zazen (seated meditation) at Studio IO just off London Road in Brighton.

We sit for 50 minutes interrupted halfway through with a bell to allow people to adjust positions. This is followed by the beating of the time on the drum. We end the practice with a short number of chants which include the Hannya Shingyo (Sutra of Great Wisdom) and the four Bodhisattva vows.

When we practise zazen, we practise ‘Shikantaza’ or ‘just wholehearted, exact, sitting’. This is silent, seated, objectless meditation. We sit still and upright, offering our complete attention to each moment.

Please arrive early if it is your first time meditating with Brighton Zen so we can offer you a short introduction to the practice and sufficiently prepare you for sitting. You do not need to confirm your attendance here, you are welcome to simply turn up on the day.

Money collected at the dojo is used to pay for the space and its upkeep. If you can, please pay the suggested donation of £3 (or £2 concessions) for the morning session or £5 (or £3 concessions) for the evening sessions. If you have difficulties paying, speak to the person in charge. If you would like to attend regularly, and pay by monthly standing order, thereby helping us to manage our budget, and potentially saving you money, please ask for a leaflet.

It is preferable to contact heather_or_jay@yahoo.co.uk or atreeonhill@gmail.com for further information rather than use the messaging facility on meetup.

All the best
