Details

I believe we can make our meetings better opportunities for us all to share what we know and to learn from others. Each time the forum meets, we bring together a wealth of data-related skills, talent, and experience. In this meeting, we would like to try something new, to tap into that wealth, and see what we can collectively and actively learn, together.

That's why we are proudly introducing a new, experimental, format to the Brighton data forum events: We will invite presenters to lay out a real-life data challenge they are facing, then a solution is proposed, and the the floor is opened to the members in attendance to provide feedback, critique the proposal, suggest alternatives, or recommend technologies or approaches.

This time, we will hear from the following presenters:

Our first presenter, Eric will give us an introduction to Body Rocket.
Body Rocket has developed a novel bike sensor technology which allows the direct, instantaneous measurement of drag force due to the rider's body. Aerodynamics account for more than 80% of the forces a cyclist needs to overcome so even small aerodynamic improvements have a big effect. Current state of the art wind tunnel testing, limited to those who can afford it, aims to find the ‘one’ most aerodynamic position and can’t account for the cyclist’s body being constantly in motion. Live aerodynamics revolutionises training for cyclists and triathletes and enables them to choose their best cycling position in real-time, under any conditions.

Next, Anna will present Body Rocket's data challenges.
Data processing and analysis is a fundamental element of Body Rocket, as a full exploitation of the information from our live streams requires post-training modelling and characterisation. As we move to the commercial launch of our product, our data volume and demand for efficient data handling will increase.

After that, Oskar will lay out a draft data pipeline and warehousing solution to address the challenges.

Then, it is YOUR turn:

  • What pitfalls ahead can you foresee?
  • What would you propose to the speakers?
  • What to you think of the problem, and the proposed solution?
  • Would you propose a different solution?
  • Would you use other technologies?
  • What do you think the best strategy/approach would be?
  • Have you faced such a problem or seen any good solutions out there?

I am looking forward to seeing you all on the meeting. Regardless of your job title and skill level, there's always more to learn.

The Brighton data forum is a socialising, networking, and skill-sharing community, bringing together local data professionals and organisations doing great work with data. We cover all topics of the data professions. our events offer a blend of (semi) formal presentations, friendly chatter, and networking opportunities.

This meeting will be conducted remotely via zoom.us.

If you want to present to the forum, please email skarinn@yahoo.com.
