Welcome to the brighton data forum!
Finally. We are very happy to be hosting a hybrid event, both on zoom, and in-person, back at the Brandwatch offices on Church street, North Laine. Long-time attendees of the forum will be very familiar with our history in that venue!
in-person attendees: please arrive at 18:30 for snacks and socializing before the talk.
remote attendees: we will start broadcasting the meeting at 19:00 at this zoom link.
We are thrilled to host special guest Susan Walsh, the Classification Guru. Susan has offered to give us a presentation based on her new book, Between the Spreadsheets: Classifying and Fixing Dirty Data.
We are also grateful to our sponsors: the data and analytics consulting experts at Rittman Mead, the social media gurus giving meaning to the voices of billions at Brandwatch, and the Silicon Brighton community that gives us invaluable assistance in planning, organising and promoting these events.
About the speaker: Susan is Founder and Managing Director of The Classification Guru Ltd, a specialist data classification, taxonomy customisation and data cleansing consultancy. She is an industry thought leader, TEDx speaker and author of ‘Between the Spreadsheets: Classifying and Fixing Dirty Data’. She’s also the creator of COAT. Susan was recently listed as one of Engati's Top 50 Unstoppable Women Leaders, and one of DataIQ's 2022 top 100 most influential people in data in the UK.
In her presentation, Susan will share real-life examples of dirty data, and the consequences it has on decision making, reporting, analytics, AI and machine learning. You’ll also learn how to make quick, accurate checks and changes to your own data in excel, regardless of your level of experience, and explain why data accuracy and maintenance is so important and implement best practices for this.
The Brighton data forum is a socialising, networking, and skill-sharing community, bringing together data professionals and organisations doing great work with data. We are proud to be one of the meet-ups supported by Silicon Brighton. We cover a wide range topics of the data professions and welcome any experience level. Our events offer a blend of (semi) formal presentations, friendly chatter, and networking opportunities. To discuss your interest in presenting to the forum, please email [skarinn@yahoo.com](mailto:skarinn@yahoo.com).
