Join us at Brighton Data Forum's meetup!
Details
Hi and welcome to the revamped Brighton Data Forum!
(Please note the new location)
This is a meet-up designed to bring together the people and organisations doing exciting work with data. There's a long list of amazing data professionals, from beginners to thought leaders, based in and around Brighton.
We want to grab the opportunity to bring these people together, foster a culture of exchange of ideas to benefit the local community of data professionals.
We are organising a series of semi-formal talks as well as providing a venue for informal chats about all things data. We have range of data topics to talk about: governance, management, integration, visualisation, analytics, data science, etc.
This year's first meeting will take place at a new venue: the Brandwatch office at Sovereign house on Church street. You will need to sign in at the lobby and be escorted upstairs to the office. We will chat for a bit over drinks, and then Dr. Michael Volpato, Technical Product Manager at Brandwatch will give a talk titled "Deriving value from the shape of data" (abstract below). Afterwards, some of us will want to continue the conversation at a pub nearby.
Note: If you have a data related talk brewing inside of you, please let us know and we will get you a place on the roster.
Thanks and look forward to seeing you there!

Title: Deriving value from the shape of data
Abstract: "Random data has no discernible pattern or shape. However, non-random data will manifest certain shape-features. Topology is the mathematical study of shape, originating in the early 1700’s. In recent years, this theory has been applied to big and complex datasets to solve real-world problems by understanding the shape of the data in question.
In this talk we will survey some ideas and applications of this exciting and nascent theory."
