May: Alexander Technique Piano Workshop
Details
As a departure from our usual playing sessions we thought it would be nice to have a session working with an experienced Alexander Technique teacher, Brighton local Gregg Isaacson, who is also a highly trained classical musician with a masters in performance from the RNCM.
Tension, both physical and mental, is something we all encounter to an extent when playing piano. To make music with ease and freedom many musicians have found Alexander Technique indispensable, and this workshop will be looking at the specifics of how we are physically at the piano and what Alexander Technique can bring to that.
The course will involve some group work as well as 1 to 1 work in masterclass format with participants at the piano. Please bring a piece to play though you’ll probably only be playing about a minute's worth of your piece, as the focus will be on how we are physically at the piano and how we can free ourselves of tension and bad habits rather than performing a piece per se.
Please sign up and pay the £25 as soon as you can so we can be sure this is a viable event. We limited it to eight spots so everyone gets a reasonable amount of time with Gregg.
Also please bring a yoga mat or something to lie on, though we’ll be principally at the piano.

As always, please arrive in good time as we need to have the door locked as we play.
