Welcome to UK Mafia!
- What is Mafia?
Play the game that 'Traitors' is based upon! Mafia is a ten-player social game, so we divide it into many tables! You'll get a secret role and work with your team to win. Each game takes around 45 minutes, so we play multiple games in a row when we meet. The goal of the Mafia Team is to eliminate the rest of the players, the Citizens. The Citizens try to figure out who the Mafia members are and eliminate them.
Don't worry if you're new, we always have plenty of new players who are warmly welcomed. We'll explain everything you need to know. Prior knowledge or experience is not required!

- How Does the Game Work?
The game has two phases: Night and Day. During the Day, everyone briefly discusses who they think the Mafia are, then vote to eliminate someone. During the Night, the Mafia can eliminate an innocent Citizen. There are also two special roles: the Don (Mafia) and the Sheriff (Citizen). At night, the Don wakes up and learns if one of the Citizens is the Sheriff. Then, the Sheriff wakes up and learns if one of the players is a Mafia. Both these roles are vital in helping their respective teams win.
The game continues until either the Mafia Team is eliminated or The Mafia outnumbers (or equals to) the Citizens. But you don't need to remember all of this; the best way to learn this game is to play it!

- Why Mafia?
This game is played all over the world. People from over 50 countries and over 15,000 players take part regularly worldwide (see, for example, 'Mafia World Tour'). Mafia is gaining popularity, with clubs and tournaments happening constantly.
It's a fair game since each player can talk and contribute equally. Regardless of your role, you can help your team win. You can get better and improve your deduciton skills with practice, just like in sports. There's even an international ranking system, like in chess or tennis.
Mafia mixes logic, intuition, and emotional intelligence, so it's really unique. You can read guides, try new strategies, and watch championships. A friendly global Mafia community is always ready to help new players. We now host regular beginner-friendly events, tournaments, a competitive league in London, and online games with players from across the globe. We also have trips abroad to play with other Mafia clubs overseas!

This is a special celebration to appreciate your support and help in 2025! The event will take place on Sunday 25 January 2026 at Kings Arms near London Waterloo. Join us to play Mafia games and nominate your awards candidates!
Please submit as many nominations as you can by 12 January for the following categories:
Fearless First
For speaking confidently/well as Player Number 1, as Citizen or Mafia.
Marvelous Mod
For volunteering to host games, allowing others to play, while creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all.
Super Sportsmanship
For taking losses on the chin and kindly supporting other players.
Rising Rookie
For being an amazing new player (who joined us in the past year).
Absolute Addict
For attending the most events this year.
Fatal Fail
For failing epically, for an outlandish event during a game (e.g. accidentally said you are Mafia while being a civilian or turned the tides of a conversation the wrong way against your own team).
Virtual Veteran
For demonstrating sportsmanship and teamwork in online games.
There will also be an award for best formal attire that will be decided during the evening.

Our committee (EJ, Pheonix) will collect nominations, and announce the winners and runner-ups during the event. Feel free to send us as many nominations as you like.

Each player gets a secret role and works with their team to win. Games last about 45 minutes, so we play many during the day. The Mafia team tries to hide and eliminate the Citizens, while the Citizens try to find the Mafia through deduction and logic. We always have first-time players and explain everything. No experience needed.
While this is a beginner-friendly game, we also host tournaments and online events with players from around the world. We even organise trips abroad to meet and play with other Mafia clubs ✈️

How to Play?
We will teach you how to play when you arrive. You will quickly see that the game has two phases:
🌙 Night:
- The Mafia secretly targets a Citizen
- The Don (Mafia) learns if a player is the Sheriff
- The Sheriff (Citizen) learns if someone is Mafia
☀️ Day:
- Each player says in their turn who they think the Mafia are
- Then, everyone votes publicly to eliminate one player
