What Are the Evils of Environmentalism?

Environmentalism has become one of the defining moral frameworks of the modern world. It calls for restraint, responsibility, and a rethinking of humanity’s place within nature.
But every moral framework carries assumptions — and every movement, no matter how well-intentioned, has the potential to overreach. What begins as preservation can become restriction; what begins as care can become control.
As Agent Smith in The Matrix put it, “Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.” If that idea sits quietly beneath certain strands of environmental thought, what follows from it?
At our next Gold Coast meetup, we’ll explore a provocative question: What are the evils of environmentalism?
The questions we will address are:
- When does environmentalism go too far?
- Should nature come before humans?
- What makes us different from other animals?
- Is environmentalism becoming dogma?
This event will be held at SOPO Brewing Co. on the Gold Coast.
After the discussion, we’ll stay on for a meal and a drink together — a chance to continue the conversation in a more relaxed setting and support the venue.
PLEASE NOTE:
Please support the venue by purchasing a drink or meal during the event.
This is intended to be a good-natured but robust discussion. Please be respectful and prepared to have your ideas challenged. If you are easily offended, this event may not be for you.
