I am familiar with other works of the playwright Jessica Swale, who also wrote this history-themed play Nell Gwynne. Acting students at Griffith University will be performing it. I am happy to see the play performed even if the venue is small and the performers still learning. Theatre- or history-lovers, willing to take a gamble, please join me!

Nell Gwynn charts the rags-to-riches story of Nell, London’s first “female actor”, in a saucy, irreverent, not-entirely-historically-accurate but very entertaining look into this woman’s life. A true tale of Restoration theatre, the controversial introduction of female performers, Kingly desires, and the trials and tribulations of breaking a glass ceiling. Playwright Jessica Swale captures the quick wit of the time and turns it into a modern farce for today.
