"XMEN: DARK PHOENIX" @ CINEPLEX SOUTH BANK

CINEPLEX SOUTH BANK

WEDNESDAY MOVIE & DINNER - XMEN: DARK PHOENIX RSVPs - https://www.meetup.com/brisbane-movie-fans/events/xjjqxqyzjbzb/ TRAILER - https://www.flicks.com.au/movie/xmen-dark-phoenix/ SYNOPSIS - Writer and longtime producer Simon Kinberg directs his own screenplay in the 13th film of the X-Men franchise. When Jean Grey's personality is corrupted and her powers are amplified after coming into contact with a cosmic entity known as the Phoenix, the rest of the X-Men must decide if the life of the woman they cherish is worth the existence of the entire universe. This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we've come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet -- one of their own. CAST - Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Lamar Johnson SCRIPT-WRITER - Simon Kinberg (based on the comic book 'The Dark Phoenix Saga' by John Byrne and Chris Claremont) GENRES - Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi DATE/TIME - WEDNESDAY, 19th JUNE 2019 @ 6:10pm (for 6:25pm session) in Cinema 3. The Damned (1969)(Ages 18 plus )

Gallery of Modern Art

This is part of the GOMA Luchino Visconti season. Tickets are free. Presented here in its original uncut form after years spent banned or censored around the world (including in Australia), The Damned is a psychosexual singularity and still the most controversial and divisive entry in Visconti’s storied oeuvre. Set in Germany in the early 1930s, the film is a portrait of the Essenbecks – a wealthy industrialist family who make the Faustian decision to collaborate with the Nazi party during their political ascent. This narrative engages with one of the filmmaker’s repeated thematic preoccupations: how those in power respond to major societal change. While the Prince in The Leopard 1963 may accept the shifting currents of history with graceful melancholy, here change is marked by avarice and iniquity. The Essenbecks themselves (portrayed by a first-rate cast of international stars, including Dirk Bogarde, Charlotte Rampling, Ingrid Thulin, and Helmut Berger as the sexually depraved heir Martin) are largely grotesqueries, whose moral destitution is reflected in Visconti’s flamboyantly lurid mise-en-scène.
