Christmas Day Barbecue Event in Roma Street Parklands
Details
On Christmas day, join us in Roma Street Parklands for lunch, conversation and fun. Everyone welcome.
I have done this event multiple times in the past. I can't say how many people will come. We might have a lovely small group or a huge vibrant large gatherings. It is a great event for anyone who doesn't have anything to do during lunch on Christmas day, whether you turn up by yourself or come with friends or family.
I will post this event in multiple groups and places. So feel free to post it in other groups as well. Just link it back to this Meetup group so we can track numbers and let me know where you are posting it.
What to bring
- Food to share
- You can barbecue, and there are lots of barbecues there, or just a plate of food or snacks
- Alcohol is allowed, but you should drink out of non-glass containers, so you can bring a bottle of wine but drink it out of plastic or paper cup
Also bring
- Also bring activities to play in the park, in the past we have played frisbee, soccer, cricket, bouls and much more
- There is plenty of seating, but some people bring folding chairs, but they are not necessary
- Check the weather, and while there there is shelter it is a good idea to bring umbrellas or raincoats if there is a possibility of rain
Wear
- Hats are good
- Sunscreen is good too
- Christmas colours or themed clothes would be great
Kris Kringle
It is not Christmas without presents. We will do a Kris Kringle. Bring a small gift of around $10 and put it in Santa's sack. Then everyone who brought a present getts to take out a random present.
How to find us
- The event starts at 11 am but I will turn up at 10 am to secure some tables, so feel free to come early and join me while I wait
- We will be at the Lakeside Barbecues between the lake and Celebration Lawn
- Meetup only allows me to put Celebration Lawn into location, but see the map in photos for the exact spot
- I will put up red & white balloons so we are easy to find
- I will be wearing a red shirt, Santa hat, and possibly a Santa beard, so come up and say hi
Getting there
- There is plenty of on and off street paid parking in the area.
- Trains stop at Roma Street Station, make sure you exit on the park side of the station
- Buses stop at Roma Street Bus Station and you walk through the train station (they leave some gates open so you can just walk through)
- There are also buses that stop at Normanby and buses that stop at Wickham Terrace next to Roma Street Parklands.
