🎲Catan - Strategy Board Games♟️@ New Farm library
New Farm Library, 135 Sydney St, New Farm, QL, AULearn how to play strategy boardgames. New and beginner players are welcomed. No party or social deduction games. Only strategy games are played.
Main Game -
- Catan (light complexity)Collect and trade resources to build up the island of Catan in this modern classic. In CATAN (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine which resources the island produces. Players build structures by 'spending' resources (sheep, wheat, wood, brick and ore) which are represented by the relevant resource cards; each land type, with the exception of the unproductive desert, produces a specific resource: hills produce brick, forests produce wood, mountains produce ore, fields produce wheat, and pastures produce sheep.
Other games played include -
- Azul (light complexity)Artfully embellish the walls of your palace by drafting the most beautiful tiles.
- The Isle of Cats (Medium complexity) Rescue as many cats as you can before Lord Vesh comes to destroy their home.
- Modern Art (Light complexity) Four types of auctions challenge players in this classic game of art speculation.
- Evolution Climate (Medium complexity)Adapt your species in an ecosystem of scarce food, predators, and a dynamic climate!
- 7 Wonders (Second Edition) (light complexity) Draft cards to develop your ancient civilization and build its Wonder of the World.
- A Game of Thrones (Second Edition) (Heavy complexity) Make alliances—and break them!—as you strive to both unite and conquer Westeros.

🧘Buddhism - Emptiness – The Final Frontier - Discussion☸️ @ New Farm Library
New Farm Library, 135 Sydney St, New Farm, QL, AUEmptiness is often misunderstood as a void or nothingness, yet its deep understanding unlocks the very ground of our existence. Rather than negating reality, emptiness reveals the dynamic, interdependent nature that allows all phenomena to arise and play. This insight, first elucidated by the Buddha, is accessible through our own reasoning and direct experience—no faith required and aligns strikingly well with modern physics
- 2pm -This interactive presentation will explore emptiness through visuals, guided inquiry, and practical analogies that illuminate how this understanding dismantles the foundations of our delusions and the roots of suffering. We will begin with a short preliminary meditation to settle the mind.
- 4pm {Optional} - Drink and bite to eat at nearby Mary Maes cafe after the library meetup.
The session will be presented by Alan Carter, who has practiced, studied, and undertaken many retreats over a period of 32 years, and has been teaching applied Buddhist philosophy for the past 20 years. Participants are encouraged to bring something for note‑taking; tables will be provided to make this easy.
