What we’re about
What are you hoping to achieve? Get fit, meet new friends/acquaintances, enjoy nature and your surroundings, maybe uncover new areas of Brisbane and surrounds that you never knew existed. Well, we do all that in Brisbane Walkers.
The real challenge is getting out bed and making your way to the meet-up point. True! We all do it...groan...but once you arrive and start walking, talking and having a damn good time PLUS experiencing different cafes and food, different environments, you will be glad you made the effort.
There is NEVER a good time to start walking. In summer - too hot; in winter - too cold; can't be bothered the other times. You just have to commit to your goal. Did you know that walking is scientifically proven to be one of the best things for your health and wellbeing?
Everyone who makes the effort loves walking with Brisbane Walkers. We're a very friendly and welcoming group for people of any age.
NOTE: We walk at a MEDIUM PACE (a stride), so this is not a group for those who like to stroll along.
What you need to know - PLEASE READ
1. To be accepted, you must have a clear photo of your face/body - we are a social group after all. If you cannot show your face for personal reasons, please message the organiser.
2. We walk around Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast regions, from short walks up to around 16kms.
3. You can do much more than you think, particularly given everyone is chatting away. But a long bushwalk is not the time to be testing how far you can walk.
4. Pick the right walk for your fitness level, that is, please don't sign up for a Mt Coot-tha walk as your first walk unless you are already moderately fit.
5. We ALWAYS socialise after or in the middle of each walk - over breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, depending on the time of the walk. If you cannot stay to socialise, you MUST tell the organiser. She will have booked a cafe/restaurant on the basis of the number of RSVPs. Please be considerate.
6. There is no pressure for you to spend a lot of money on food/drink. We all know what it's like to be broke or saving hard. Come along and have a cup of coffee or a piece of toast - no-one will say anything.
7. Brisbane Walkers is not a dating group; we're people who love to walk. If you meet someone special, great! But please don't come along with that expectation.
8. Brisbane Walkers could have tens of thousands of members but the organiser keeps the membership very clean to represent the number of ACTIVE walkers (that's within that year). Most Meetup groups are never cleaned out so the number of members is NOT representative of who is really attending. Note: I delete members after one year of inactivity.
So c'mon, guys - if you just love to walk, then join us for a regular walk. You'll be most welcome and be one step further into achieving your goals.

See all- Hiking in stunning Carnarvon Gorge (not an organised tour/holiday)Carnarvon Gorge Visitor Centre, Queensland
THIS IS NOT AN ORGANISED HOLIDAY (although itinerary is below). I WILL NOT BE BOOKING ANYTHING FOR YOU.
PLEASE READ THIS. THINK ABOUT IT. THEN DECIDE. (Note: Accommodation books quickly so decide and book soon.)
PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION
I am going to Carnarvon Gorge to hike. It's a bucket list destination. One day to drive up, two days of exploration, then one day to drive back - Friday October 10 to Monday October 13. (Potential to stay one day longer.)
It's the low season so prices are much cheaper but please NOTE that the weather will be cool/cold at night and very warm/hot during the day. NOTE: it's a dry heat, not humid.
You'll need to plan, book and pay for your own adventure. Itinerary is below. Of course, we gather as a group and, if you are joining, the expectation is that you will walk with us.
I have sought the advice of an ex-Carnarvon-Gorge-tour-guide, so there'll be great walks.
PLEASE NOTE: the three trails mean between 15 and 20kms on both days. Distance will depend on how long we stay at each amazing sight.
ITINERARY
1. Friday: Drive to Injune, stay overnight at the Injune Caravan/Cabin Park. (Staying one night in Injune keeps costs down and it's only 1.5 hours to Carnarvon Gorge from there.) I have booked a cabin with ensuite for $110 (only one more available) and there are 4 x $75 cabins without a bathroom. So book now if definitely coming.
2. Saturday: Early drive to Carnarvon Gorge, check into accommodation. I'm staying at the Big Four Caravan Park in an Economy Studio Cabin with ensuite @ $224 per night. And no, I won't be room sharing.https://www.big4.com.au/caravan-parks/qld/central-qld-highlands/breeze-holiday-parks-carnarvon-gorge
3. Saturday: probably around 11am, first walk till sunset on the best shorter trail/s.
4. Saturday dinner: TBD (hot food will be available on site or you bring your own but let's get together over a meal somehow.
5. Sunday: Sunrise to Sunset walk at a leisurely pace to take in amazing sights including Ampitheatre, Art Gallery, and Cathedral Cave.
6. Sunday: overnight at Big 4; dinner TBD
7. Monday: drive back homeIf nobody comes along, that's perfectly fine. I'll do it on my own.
Make your mind up within the month because accommodation might become a problem.
