Hello everyone and welcome!

!!!THIS IS A NEW GROUP IN BRISBANE!!!
EVERY SATURDAY

In Brisbane Writing Group, our goal is to have a calm, welcoming environment for all types of writers to come, share ideas, socialise, and most importantly, get some writing done. This group is for everyone – locals, expats and people just passing through, writers of all languages (English is the most commonly used during the session, but you are welcome to share work in other languages as well), and ALL types of writing, be it fiction, non-fiction, prose, poetry, screen-writing, work-related writing, etc.
Since this is a new group, we're still testing a few spots around the city. This time we'll be at the Uptown Food Court. Near Lovisa and Boost juice, there is a green wall. Whoever gets there first, try to get us seats. Look for people with notebooks, pens, laptops, etc. We’ll be starting at around 1PM. The numbers are not restricted, but please RSVP.
What to bring:

  • Something to write with!
  • Something to write on!
  • Writing prompts to share with the group (optional!)
  • A good attitude and sunny disposition (optional, but everyone will be grateful for it!)
  • A small donation (keeping our events on the Meetup app is expensive, and it's fair if we all share the costs... nobody profits on these events, besides Meetup itself) NOTE: Everyone is welcome regardless of whether they donate or not, but donations are certainly appreciated!

Meetup format (same as Lisbon Writing Group or many others around the globe):
1PM a social hour: lunch, coffee, talk about writing… or anything really.
2PM an hour of writing, because magic doesn’t happen on its own but with discipline.
We write in silence. The main goal is to establish writing as a discipline, so bring whatever means for writing you prefer and be ready to write for an hour whether on your own topic or on some prompts provided by the facilitator.
3PM Reading, only if you want to. SHARING IS ALWAYS OPTIONAL, but it's always welcome and happily received by the group!
After that we can have social time - whether presenting our creations, discussing personal writing successes (getting published, overcoming writer's block etc) or current projects you're working on. No critiquing, exercises, lectures, ego, competition or feeling guilty!
The total time is usually around 3 hours. At around 4 pm, you'll be free to enjoy the rest of your Saturday... or to spend even more time with the writers who want to stay behind and write some more!
So, let’s do some writing. Exciting!
