What we’re about

Brisbane Film Fans is a friendly, informal, social group of people in Brisbane who enjoy watching films together. This group is using the (former) Brisbane Animal Welfare Group subscription to transition to this Brisbane Film Fans in February 2025. Brisbane Film Fans is not an official organisation nor is it affiliated with any official organisation or business. Only people aged 18+ can become members.

What we watch, where
We meet regularly to enjoy watching movies together in Brisbane, QLD - mainly at the Dendy Coorparoo, Palace James St, Angelika Cinemas or Five Star Cinemas New Farm. Most films tend to be drama, comedy, and romance genres. While I enjoy the occasional mainstream Hollywood flick, I have found independent movies, foreign language films, and those from film festivals to be more thought-provoking and enjoyable. The Admin team is not keen on horror movies, sorry.

We often gather immediately post-film at a nearby eatery for optional eats/beverages and for social chats about movies. Participation is optional and no need to order a whole meal - you can order as much or as little as you prefer.

Event times
Since most cinemas usually post their movie session times by the Wednesday preceding the weekend, unless otherwise listed, Brisbane Film Fans Event times will be posted in this group by that Wednesday. In the meantime, Event details will include a temporary placeholder text, e.g. 'Venue TBC - Brisbane-based' and '1am' as the start time. Please check back by then to see the Event venue, start time and end time.

Gold coin donations to cover the Event host's admin/organising time and effort are welcome and optional when we meet.

Group rules
For the sake of the Brisbane Film Fans and its members' safety and comfort, we ask that all members abide by the following group rules when attending our movie events:

***

1. Age restriction
All members/attendees must be aged 18 years old or older.
2. Update Event RSVP attendance
If you have RSVPed to an Event but you later change your mind about attending, please update your Event RSVP accordingly as soon as possible. If you have RSVPed 'yes' but then decide not to attend, do not change your RSVP to 'no,' and/or do not contact the host at least one hour BEFORE the event, you will be marked as a NO SHOW. Three NO SHOWS will have you removed from the group.
3. Be kind and courteous
We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.
4. No hate speech or bullying
Make sure that everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, disability/ability, or identity will not be tolerated.
5. Respect everyone's privacy and safety
Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group. Each member is responsible for their own personal safety both online and offline. We recommend you not exchange personal information, such as your contact details, address, workplace, etc; until you have established mutual trust. The Admin Team does not request your personal/financial details for participating in this group.
6. No selling of products or services
Please, no selling of products or services.
7. Refrain from wearing fragrances and smoking
Since about 20 per cent of people in Australia have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (ref: Dr. Anne Steinemann), please refrain from wearing perfumes/fragrances/colognes. If you smoke or use vapes, as a courtesy to other members, please smoke away from other members during Brisbane Movie Fan events and the group's post-film eats/beverages outings.

Note: to keep this Group's membership current, members who haven't visited this Group within 2 years will be removed and are welcome to re-join.

Brisbane Film Fans is a great way to see movies with fun company!
Cheers,
Ilan
