📖 Lecture Overview:
William James (1890) described the self on two levels: the narrative self, shaped by personal history, and the minimal self, ever-present yet undefined. Much of our suffering stems from the stories we tell ourselves, but do these truly reflect who we are? This lecture explores psychological theories on self-concept development and its impact on well-being, linking them to spiritual perspectives on identity and suffering. Through psychological research and spiritual inquiry, we will not seek to define the ever-present self, but rather to understand what it is not—offering insight into a deeper sense of being.
👤 About the Speaker:
Dr. Luke Ney holds a PhD in psychology and is a Senior Research Fellow funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council. His research focuses on mental disorders, self-concept, and their biological and neurobiological foundations. With over 15 years of dedicated spiritual meditation practice, his passion lies in understanding and sharing the path to true and lasting happiness.
