Ethical dilemmas in books/movies

Have there been times when fictional characters in books you've read have faced major dilemmas? Maybe they had to make a critical decision which would change the course of their lives and the lives of others. Or maybe you're reading non-fiction and have come across something interesting about making decisions. Haven't been reading lately?
