Details

I'm sure we're all excited to be back for our August BrisJS event, thanks to our awesome volunteer speakers! Make sure your RSVP is up to date, and read on to check out the two great talks we’ve got lined up...

(Hey prospective speaker volunteers! - You are incredible and I need to see you volunteering any kind of talk for our 2025 events and beyond - make it the year you take the stage!)

Enjoy our sponsored pizza and drinks by PCCW Global | Console Connect, while networking with your peers, as is standard at our famous events 🍕 Thanks to Auto & General for hosting us and providing all the AV gear and people power!
We’d love for you to join us and bring along your questions! Let’s dive into the details below...

⏱ Schedule:
6:15 PM - Arrive & mingle - To enter the Toowong corporate tower wait at Gallery Level (GL) elevators for A&G security or staff volunteers to let you up (GL elevators are the same level and closest to the entrance coming from the Toowong Railway Station in the centre) - Map uploaded to event photos and an older one is available on https://brisjs.org/#findus - Please note, once we start, I don't have a good way to check messages since my phone is used for recordings.

6:45 PM - Talks begin…

👁️‍🗨️ Improving API observability and security with scalable Proxies (Linkedin: alexanderferguson) - 30min
In this presentation Alex shows the value of using proxies to build, test and deploy infrastructure and code. He'll demonstrate common development practices that large teams use to secure API endpoints and the platform. Along with that, he'll dive into massively scalable architecture and their deployment on AWS via Github Actions and demonstrate the solution he's building - RequestRocket - which offers universal API authentication translation and improved observability in your stack.

⏱ Intermission - Networking / Food ~7:15pm - 25-30min

♾️ The huge, the tiny, and the (sometimes) ugly: Javascript numbers - Murray Bourne (bluesky: bourne2learn.bsky.social) - 30min
Javascript has a few "absolute maximum" numbers that are worth knowing about. How these large numbers behave in an application is even more worthy of our attention. Using a case study, we'll see how to avoid some of the pitfalls that occur when we delve into the very large, and the very small corners of JS.

⏱ Closing - Safe trip home folks!
