Trust in the Age of AI: Trust is something we donβt always give a great deal of thought to. We trust someone, or we don't. We believe we can rely on a particular source of information, or not.
Those judgements are the result of a complex and fluid process that builds incrementally, degrades under pressure, and operates differently depending on context and stakes. So what happens when AI systems become participants in that dynamic, as they are now, embedded in workplaces, decisions, and relationships? How does AI earn trust? Can it lose it? Should it trust us? What does it mean to extend trust to something whose inner workings don't resemble human cognition at all?
Drawing on recent work delivering Dstl-funded research into human machine teaming concepts, Louisa will explore trust not as a fixed property but as a living variable that has to be built, calibrated, and sometimes consciously withheld.
The evening will wrap up by 8pm, and there is the option for more discussions and networking until we have to vacate the building by 8:30pm ππ»
