Join me for a lovely circular walk taking us along the River Avon and through Leigh Woods.

The trail starts at Greyville Smith Park and continues through Brunel open space to arrive at the Avon riverside. The riverside path continues along Burwalls Wood before ascending up Leigh Woods. We follow the tracks leading to the edge of the Avon Gorge and quarry viewpoint. From here we will descend through the Nightingale Valley and return to the start.

We will meet at The Tobacco Factory a short walk away from the trail start point. Every Sunday there is a community market here featuring local food, crafts, and produce. I would suggest this is a good opportunity to pick up something for lunch as we will stop during the walk. If not please bring something with you.

We will meet at the Tobacco Factory from 10.30 am and start the walk from 11.30 am. The one hour time window allows plenty of time for people to arrive and have a look around the market if you wish. If you prefer you can always get a coffee and see some of the art exhibits in the main cafe bar/snug.

Would recommend to bring walking/hiking shoes and warm clothing.

Once we have finished the walk we can always have a drink in the Tobacco Factory cafe/bar.

We will meet at Browns next to the museum from 18.30 where we can have a pre drink and chat and head to the museum from 19.00 pm.

I have done this event the past 2 years and I am putting it on again for 2026.

Come to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Horse at Wai Yee Hong’s Lunar New Year celebrations, on 21st February 2026. The annual celebrations is the biggest in the South West and raises money for The Grand Appeal. This family event is FREE to attend and will feature dance and martial arts performances as well as the traditional lion dance.

There will also be a festive street food market with hot drinks and various types of Asian street food.

We will meet at Wai Yee Hong Supermarket around 11.00 am when the performances start and we will aim to stay a couple of hours with time to get lunch.

Afterwards we can take a 15 min walk to the farm pub in St Werboughs for a drink on route back to the center. The Farm is a traditional pub in St Werboughs city farm with a large outside space and cozy indoors with a fire and home cooked food.

Last year we also called in at the Cadbury pub in Montpelier and can do this again if anyone's up for it.

The Wai Yee Hong Supermarket is in Eastville and can be reached by public transport. I will probably take a train from Temple Meads to Stapleton Road if anyone wants to join me.

We are meeting up to explore the stunning Bristol Light Festival. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see the city transformed by world-class light installations, discover hidden corners of Bristol, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.
Whether you're new to the city or just looking to meet some new people, this is a relaxed and friendly way to spend a Thursday evening.
🗺️ The Plan
Meet Up: 18:30 at Millennium Square (right by the Cary Grant statue).
The Trail: We’ll wander through the various light installations and attractions across the city center.
Social: After we've seen the lights, we’ll head to a nearby pub for some drinks and a chat to warm up and get to know each other better.
✨ What to Bring
Warm layers: It’s February, so wrap up cozy!
Comfy shoes: We’ll be doing a fair bit of walking.
A camera: The installations are very Instagram-friendly.
