Details
Join me for a visit to Spike island where we can check out the 2 current exhibits before heading to the Christmas Fair at Underfall Yard.
The two current exhibits are
Nour Jaouda: Matters of Time
A solo exhibition featuring fluid, multi-layered textile works that blend painting, sculpture, and installation. The works explore cultural identity, memory, and the sense of belonging through "landscapes of memory" that draw on the artist's childhood in Libya and experiences living between Cairo and London.
Dan Lie: Sleeping Methodologies
An installation that transforms the gallery into a space for slowing down and resting, inspired by the artist's personal experiences with burnout and grief. Explores themes of exhaustion, rest, and the limits of productivity in contemporary life, encouraging audiences to reflect on the idea of "What would happen if I stopped?".
The space is bathed in yellow light and filled with objects designed to prompt both physical and mental pause.
From here we will take a short walk over to the historic Underfall Yard which has been transformed into a festive wonderland featuring an artisan market festive, food and drinks and an ornament making section.
The famous Bristol ship βThe Matthewβ also joins the boatyard, giving visitors the chance to get a closer look at the replica of John Cabotβs ship. Take advantage of the rare opportunity to see it out of the water while enjoying the lovely harbour side views.
There will also be entertainment through music and poetry from groups such as Feast of Fools, Bristol Folk Choir and the IsamBards and an open mic session.
We will allow around an hour to see the exhibits before heading to unferfall yard. We can spend as long as we wish in the Christmas fair and then head for a drink or 2 in one of the pubs in the Hotwells area.
