"Happiness is the only good, the time to be happy is now, the place to be happy is here, and the way to be happy is to make others so". So said the thinker Robert Ingersoll, and this is often quoted as a life objective for humanists. But does happiness, really matter, and if so can it be achieved?

Join us for a thought-provoking evening with Dr Mark Williamson, Director of Action for Happiness and author of the Sunday Times #1 bestselling book Make Life Happier. Mark's work is is based on evidence from the latest scientific research, combined with unique insights and proven ideas that have helped thousands of people to adopt successfully in their everyday lives. It goes much deeper than typical self-help advice, covering a wide range of themes which contribute to lifelong wellbeing. Crucially, Making Life Happier combines actions you can do to improve your own happiness with actions that benefit others too. The event will cover themes such as mindfulness, optimism, self-acceptance, goals and purpose. And in addition areas such as relationships, including listening, vulnerability, forgiveness and community. Mark invites people to join a global movement of people who are choosing to live differently - people who recognise that happiness is not just a personal quest, but a gift that can enrich our communities and our world. It’s an invitation to help shift our values. From what we can get to what we can give. From seeking validation to finding connection. From just surviving to actively thriving. This is about how to make life happier, rather than happy, recognising this is a journey and there’s no perfect end-point. Mark will be 'in conversation' about his work
