(Sunday) Movie Meetup — The Christophers — Meet from 4 pm, film at 5
Details
We're going to see Steven Soderbergh's new film The Christophers, staring Michaela Coel and Ian McKellen.
(Sunday afternoon because there are no late screenings, and it's too good to miss.)
We'll meet in the Watershed cafe/bar from 4 pm, to say hello and chat. Afterwards, there will be time to stop and talk about the film.
Buy your own ticket from the box office or online.
ABOUT THE FILM
"A fixture of the London art scene since his starry breakout amid the creative explosion of the 1960s, Julian Sklar now lives in cluttered, self-imposed seclusion.
His two estranged children enlist Lori, a young painter and sometime-forger, to pose as a prospective assistant and gain access to a fabled series of unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in his home studio, in a deceptive bid to secure an inheritance for themselves."
— Watershed summary
"... legacy, artistic expression and commerce, and reinvention ..."
★★★★★ Liam Lacey, Original-Cin
"The real heist of The Christophers is that Soderbergh snuck such a bittersweet tale into cinemas, dressed up as a silly caper."
★★★★ David Sims, The Atlantic
"... two of the best performances you’ll see all year ..."
★★★★ David Fear, Rolling Stone
"The Christophers is a talky, at times incredibly funny, comedy drama with plot reversals that make it feel like it’s on the verge of a thriller."
★★★★ Benjamin Lee, The Guardian
