What we’re about
Korfball is a true mixed-gender team sport with similarities to netball and basketball ("Korf" meaning "basket" in Dutch). Teams of eight (four women four men) compete to outscore each other. We aim to provide a welcoming environment for people who are keen to learn a new sport and and hopefully make some new friends on the way, with a healthy social side to the club.
We are keen to recruit both women and men who are looking to get involved competitively! We train and compete all year round, outdoors in the summer and indoors during winter.
For beginners the first 2 sessions are free! For reference we train:
- MAIN SEASON (Sep-Mar): Mondays (team training) and Wednesdays (tailored for beginners) 7:30pm-9pm at City Academy, Bristol, BS5 9JH
- SUMMER SEASON (May-Aug): Wednesdays (all welcome) on 7pm-8.30pm typically on Clifton/Durdham Downs, Bristol (usually set up near the water tower - roughly ///buck.barn.gravy)

COMPETITIVE BEGINNERS NEEDED
If you're a beginner who is interested in playing competitively, now is the perfect time to join us! We are having a recruitment drive to fill our brand new 3rd team, ready to play in the league next season. We need a few more players to bolster the ranks so now is a great time to join us and learn the game! Anyone who is interested please make this known on your first session and we'll be keen to get you involved as soon as we can.Location: City Academy Sports Centre, Russell Town Ave, Bristol, BS5 9JH, 3rd court on the right.
Participants: We use meetup to advertise to new players, but our club has ~30 members that communicate via WhatsApp. You definitely wont be the only one there!
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THIS SESSION
The first Wednesday of every month we open our doors to beginners! This will be a regular training session with both a mix of new starters and existing members. For the beginners we will try and focus on the basics of korfball, have a few friendly competitions and typically end with a short game. Hopefully it will give you a good taste of korfball and our club!
We will also be going to the pub afterwards for a drink or two, so its a great way to chat and meet some of the club too :)
BUT WHAT EVEN IS KORFBALL?
Korfball is a fast paced mixed-gender ball sport, similar to Basketball or Netball. In fact it means 'basketball' in Dutch. Teams are made up of 4 boys and 4 girls who work together to outscore the opposition. It's a very inclusive game and lots of fun!IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?
Korfball is great fun and we are a very welcoming and friendly club. Most people join us with zero experience in the sport. Some people join us to get fit. Others join to make new friends. Whatever your reason you will be welcome with us. At the very least come give it a try, or you'll never know!COMPETITIVE
We are super keen on finding players who want to compete in our regular season. Our 2 teams currently play in both levels of the local leagues - we are a casual club but usually finish high in the tables! If you're interested in getting involved with a competitive sport then we'd love to hear from you. We also play lots of competitive korf outdoors over the summer!JOIN US

PAYG is currently set to £7 a session, or there are other more cost-effective options if you want to really get involved (see https://www.bristolcitykorfball.co.uk/documents/season-fees).
