About us

Korfball is a true mixed-gender team sport with similarities to netball and basketball ("Korf" meaning "basket" in Dutch). Teams of eight (four women four men) compete to outscore each other. We aim to provide a welcoming environment for people who are keen to learn a new sport and and hopefully make some new friends on the way, with a healthy social side to the club.

We are keen to recruit both women and men who are looking to get involved competitively! We train and compete all year round, outdoors in the summer and indoors during winter.

For beginners the first 2 sessions are free! For reference we train:

  • MAIN SEASON (Sep-Mar): Mondays (team training) and Wednesdays (tailored for beginners) 7:30pm-9pm at City Academy, Bristol, BS5 9JH
  • SUMMER SEASON (May-Aug): Wednesdays (all welcome) on 7pm-8.30pm typically on Clifton/Durdham Downs, Bristol (usually set up near the water tower - roughly ///buck.barn.gravy)

You are welcome to join us every Wednesday.

    ## Why we’re recruiting women

Korfball is a mixed-gender sport: league teams play with four women and four men on court. We have three teams in the local leagues and we currently have space for more women at the club, including opportunities to train casually and/or potentially represent one of our league teams.
We are currently full for male players, so this invitation is specifically for women aged 18+ who would like to try korfball.

    ## No experience needed

You do not need to have played korfball, netball, basketball or any other team sport before. Most people who join us are beginners when they first come along.
    You can expect:

    • A relaxed, welcoming session with coaches and experienced club members
    • An introduction to the basic rules and skills of korfball
    • Fun drills and small-sided games
    • A friendly match at the end of the session
    • The option to join us for pub drinks afterwards and get to know the club

There will usually be around 12–20 friendly Bristol City Korfball Club members at training, so you will not be arriving on your own into an unfamiliar group.

    ## What is korfball?

Korfball is a fast-paced, mixed-gender team sport often described as a combination of netball and basketball. It is played in teams of eight, with equal numbers of women and men, and rewards movement, teamwork and quick passing rather than individual physicality.
It is sociable, accessible and great exercise — while also offering the chance to play competitively in local leagues and outdoor summer competitions.

    ## This could be for you if…

    • You want to get fitter in a fun, supportive environment
    • You are looking to meet new people in Bristol
    • You enjoy team sports but do not want to need previous experience
