Severn Beach - Shirley's Cafe - 14 miles each way

Details

Starting outside the Nova Scotia Pub, Hotwells at 11am

Ride to Shirley's café in Severn Beach - were stop for 45 minutes, mug of tea and a cake, around £5.50.

Route there is flat, approximately 90-100 minutes - no planned stops. Were use the shared path on the Portway, then various traffic free paths through Lawrence Weston and Avonmouth. Plus quiet roads.

Route back has 3 climbs, all suitable for walking. As we leave the cafe were ride along the sea wall, this can have a lot of families and pedestrians. The route is via Henbury, Westbury-on-Trym, Clifton Downs - where were stop at the by the ice cream van. Were also go over an infamous motorway roundabout which can't be used yet - disagreements on funding for the access road.

The route there and back, are complicated, lots of turns and twists, I'll keep the pace steady. Stay vigilant watching where the person in front turns.

The route is a mix of traffic free and quiet roads. Were stop or slow down after junctions and hills to let everyone catch up.

Please respect we ride in a group and the ride leader has to make
decisions on behalf of the group, these need to be followed.

The ride leader will stop for catch-ups, at junctions and hills. Please do not overtake the ride leader this is how most rides have ended up with riders being lost, causing the whole group to be inconvenienced.

You must be confident in your fitness level for the whole ride. If you are in any doubt please do not attend. You must be capable of riding for 90 minutes non stop and completed this recently. We do not ride fast and do stop at the top of hills but we do require a certain level of fitness.

Your bike needs to be recently ridden and in good order. You should bring a spare inner tube for your bike. This is to avoid holding up the rest of the group. There is likely to be someone on the ride who can help mend a puncture, although this is not guaranteed. Have a plan is you or your bike cannot be fixed following an incident.
