Details
This is a ride out to the village of Tintern, famous for its abbey ruins. The approach to Tintern passes through the 1km long Tidenham Tunnel along the Wye Vallley Greenway, which is barely illuminated so as not to disturb the resident bats.
Heading out from Bristol, we will pass through Blaise Castle Estate and then past Severn Beach across the old Severn Bridge. It is mostly a mix of shared paths and quiet lanes with some stretches on road.
When we get to Chepstow, we pick up the Wye Vallley Greenway. This is a bit rough and gravelly in places. Before we join it, there is a very short but sharp climb on a path, which we will push up.
Total distance is approximately 86km (54 miles) with around 800m (2,800ft) of ascent. There are a few climbs but nothing too challenging - check the route for details. The pace will be fairly casual.
Meeting place is outside the Nova Scotia Pub, Hotwells. I'll be on a black and red Btwin bike with a red bag. We'll set off at 10:00am, please arrive in good time.
The plan is to stop for a pub lunch in the village but other options are available.

Please respect that we ride in a group and the ride leader has to make decisions on behalf of the group, which should be followed.
The ride leader will stop for catch-ups, at junctions and hills. Please avoid overtaking the leader as this can lead to people getting lost.
Your bike should be recently ridden and in good order. You should bring a spare inner tube for your bike. This is to avoid holding up the rest of the group. There is likely to be someone on the ride who can help mend a puncture, although this is not guaranteed.
