Details

This ride is from Bristol to Caldicot, where we can visit the Norman castle and its grounds.

Heading out from Bristol, we will pass through Blaise Castle Estate and then past Severn Beach across the old Severn Bridge. It is mostly a mix of shared paths and quiet lanes with some stretches on road.

From there the route continues along mostly quiet roads into the town of Caldicot. We can stop for lunch at the Castle Inn pub, just outside the castle grounds.

After lunch we will ride around the castle grounds on unpaved but flat shared paths, before heading back to Bristol. The castle is free to enter for anyone interested in a quick look around.

Total distance is approximately 85km (52 miles) with around 560m (1,800ft) of ascent. It's a fairly level ride - the biggest climb is coming back through Westbury-on-Trym. The pace will be fairly casual.

Meeting place is outside the Nova Scotia Pub, Hotwells. I'll be on a silver Ribble bike. We'll set off at 10:00am, please arrive in good time.

Please respect that we ride in a group and the ride leader has to make decisions on behalf of the group, which should be followed.

The ride leader will stop for catch-ups, at junctions and hills. Please avoid overtaking the leader as this can lead to people getting lost.

Your bike should be recently ridden and in good order. You should bring a spare inner tube for your bike. This is to avoid holding up the rest of the group. There is likely to be someone on the ride who can help mend a puncture, although this is not guaranteed.
