The business of games (A fireside chat with Matt Carroll)
Details
Join us for what will be an insightful evening as we sit down with Matt Carroll from Sports Interactive (the studio behind the hugely successful Football Manager series) for a candid fireside chat exploring the business of games.
Hosted by Bristol Games Hub Director Sam Ibbitson, this relaxed and informal conversation will dive into Matt’s career journey, starting in 1996 at MicroProse (in nearby Chipping Sodbury) to Disney, Hasbro and finally Sports Interactive. We'll cover the realities of building and scaling games companies, and what it takes to navigate today’s ever-changing games industry.
The interview/chat with Matt will last around 30-45 minutes, and we’ll explore a range of topics, including:
- Growing and managing successful game studios
- Working with major global IPs and licensors
- The challenges of scaling teams and projects
- Commercial realities of modern game development
- Opportunities and risks facing the industry today
- Leadership, decision-making, and lessons learned throughout Matt’s career
There’ll also be opportunities for audience Q&A at the end of the session - as well as the usual socialising and networking with fellow developers, students, and games industry professionals from across the South West.
Whether you’re an aspiring developer, an indie founder, or simply curious about how successful games businesses operate behind the scenes, this promises to be a fascinating evening you won’t want to miss.
