Abstract:

Every Java application needs security. However, implementing it yourself is complex and error-prone. Keycloak is a popular open-source Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution that makes it easier to protect your applications — whether you’re securing a small app or running high-scale production systems.

We’ll show how to integrate Keycloak with your Java app, with a concrete example of securing your REST API in Quarkus. You’ll see how to protect your endpoints, enforce authentication and authorization, and ensure that your application is robust against common security threats. Once the app is secured, ensuring that the IAM system works reliably and behaves correctly in real-world deployments is essential. As a bonus, we’ll show how to keep an eye on your cluster’s health and performance - all the way down to JVM metrics.

In the second half, we’ll shift focus to the Keycloak project itself: how you can contribute, what’s new in the development process, and a look at the brand-new JUnit5-based test framework driving Keycloak forward.

In this session, you’ll learn how to secure your applications with Keycloak, ensuring they run reliably in any environment. Get started with one of the most widely adopted open-source Java projects and explore the new test framework that makes writing tests easier than ever.
