Abstract:

Processes are everywhere, whether you think about simple GitHub workflows or more sophisticated company processes like mortgage approvals or new hire onboarding.

Business Process Management (BPM) is a systematic approach to improving business operations by analyzing, designing, modeling, implementing, monitoring, and optimizing an organization's workflows to achieve strategic goals, boost efficiency, and reduce costs.

In this talk, we will trace the evolutionary arc of process automation, driven by the jBPM(Java BPM) engine and its surrounding ecosystem, showcasing its transition from centralized, stateful monolithic engines to a lightweight, cloud-native paradigm ready for AI integration (including AI agents that you can neatly include in your workflows).

So, if you are interested in learning how you can develop your own workflows, we will show you how easy it is to create your own processes locally and then deploy them as a service running in the Kubernetes environment using the latest offerings of the Apache KIE (Knowledge Is Everything) community, which is where the project now resides.
